A Tax Tip from Schwartz's Systems Corporation
Free Tax Tip No. 333: Earlier is better when preparing for your returns Return to
List of Tips

Earlier is always better when it comes to preparing your income taxes. The filing deadline is April 15, and you should be able to file electronically by February 1 or a few days earlier.

1. Gather your records in advance. Make sure you have all of the records you need, including W-2 and 1099 forms. Don't forget to make a copy for your records.

2. Get the right forms if you do not use our services. Forms are available around the clock at the IRS website, www.irs.gov.

3. Take your time. If you are rushing or waiting until the deadline, you are more likely to make a mistake.

4. Double-check your math and verify all Social Security numbers. These are among the most common errors found on tax returns. Taking care will reduce your chance of getting one of those nasty IRS letters and will speed up your refund.

5. E-filing is easy. E-filing catches math errors and provides confirmation your return has been received by the IRS. It also gives you a faster refund.

6. You will also get a faster refund if you choose to have your refund direct deposited into either a checking or savings account. It is safe and secure. There is no chance of the check getting lost or stolen.

7. Don't panic!! If you have a problem or a question, remember you can always call the IRS at 800-829-1040 and wait on hold or become a client and give us a call with your questions and concerns. You can always contact us by email, taxprep@sscservices.com. We are always looking for new clients if you know someone looking for a new preparer.
