You must file a tax return if your income is above a certain level.
If you are self-employed, you must file a return if you earn more than $400.
If you are a single person without a child, you must file a return if you earn more than $8,750.
If you are married filing a joint return you must earn more than $17,500.
Even if you are not required to file, you might want to file to get back money that was withheld from your paycheck or one of the refundable credits, Earned Income Tax Credit, Additional Child Tax Credit or Health Coverage Tax Credit.
