We are getting close to the end of the regular filing season and if you are filing your own return, here are a few tips to help you file on time.
Consider electronically filing instead of paper filing.
Be sure all required social security numbers are on the return and are correct including dependents social security numbers.
Double check all of your numbers and additions
Sign your form
Attach all required schedules
Send your return certified, return receipt requested
If you owe money, attach a check and make certain your social security number is on the check and words “2008 Tax Payment”
If you are not going to file your return by April 15, be sure to mail in an extension and a payment if you think you are going to owe. The extension is for time to file not time to pay. If you owe money, you will be penalized if you have not paid in 90% of what you owe this year or 110% of what you paid last year. Either way it beats penalties
This information is provided in an effort to help you gather and organize the information necessary to file your individual or small business income tax return. While these financial tools are not a substitute for financial advice from a qualified professional, they can be used as a starting point in your decision making process.
